French video game publisher Ubisoft has announced a sweeping corporate overhaul that has led to the cancellation of six games in development — including the highly anticipated Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. This move is part of a broader restructuring effort designed to reposition the company for long-term sustainability.
In addition to canceling several projects, Ubisoft also revealed delays for seven other titles and the closure of its Halifax (Canada) and Stockholm (Sweden) studios. The company plans to reorganize into five specialized creative divisions, known internally as “Creative Houses,” focusing on specific types of games and franchises.
CEO Yves Guillemot explained that these difficult decisions are necessary to create a more efficient and financially stable structure. However, the announcement had a negative impact on the company’s stock, which fell sharply following the news.
Industry analysts suggest that the restructuring reflects broader challenges in the AAA gaming market, including rising development costs and shifting player preferences — trends that many large publishers are currently confronting.
